Ultrasonic attenuation in dielectric crystals KCI, KBr and Kl have been calculatedin a wide temperature range. Starting from nearest neighbour distance and hardnessparameter of the substance and using Born-Mayer type of potential, the attenuationdue to phonon-viscosity loss is evaluated. The final values are compared with ex-perimental results available in literature. A successful effort is made to concludesatisfactorily that ultrasonic attenuation is one of the fundamental property of thesubstance.
