Starting from lattice constant, hardness parameter and assuming the Lundquistpotential, the ultrasonic attenuation due to phonon-viscosity mechanism and ther-moelastic loss has been evaluated in semiconducting crystals having ZnS structure, viz. ZnSe, ZnTe, GaAs and GaSb. The results were found in well agreement withavailable theoretical and experimental values. It is pointed out that ultrasonic attenua-lion is the basic property of the substance.
