Several measurements have been undertaken on monoc[inic zirconia refractorycomprising the temperature dependence of DC electrical conductivity, infrared(IR absorption spectra) and Cu-K. X-ray diffraction patterns (XRDP) before andafter exposure to various absorbed gamma doses (10'-10' rad). Promising resultsare obtained which hold good with one another explaining the interaction mecha-nism of ionizing radiation with monoclinic zirconia investigated. From conductivitymeasurements, the activation energies for carrier liberation are evaluated. TheIR absorption spectra measurements are proved to be more sensitive and fast toolto detect the radiation damage than by X-ray diffraction method.
