Heat capacity measurements on a crystal boule of KBr/NH,(Br (0.5 mol3)have been extended down to To 0.08 K. In the region T>1.2 K, the results arein quantitative agreement with the heat capacity calculated for a "frozen-in"composition of nuclear spin symmetry species of the NHj ion corresponding toI:4.5i0.5 K. At lower temrceratures, a sr>ontaneous release of enerxv from thecrystal is observed as well as an excess heat capacity which is much larger than theprobable experimental uncertainty. Both effects can be accounted for on theassumption that the crystal contained 40 to 100 ppm of ortho -H.. It is probablethat the molecular Hz was introduced during the growth of the crystal from themelt.
