The flow of viscous fluid in a channel with progressive waves of wall contrac-lion is numerically studied as a two-dimensional model of peristaltic flow.In order to clarify the flow connected with peristaltic motion, the peristaltic flowof viscous fluid through a channel with progressive waves of wall contraction isinvestigated for the following various parameters : the Reynolds number, wavelength, amplitude of contractive wave, and pressure gradient along the channel.As the results, the rate of fluid transport by the peristaltic motion is shown asa function of these parameters.
