Linear stability theory is applied to lamiuaar natural couavection plunaes arisingfrom a poizat heat source for Prandtl numbers of 2 and 0.7 (air). Tlve axisynantetricsteady plume which has a boundary-layer structure is used as the basic flow. The stability eq uations wlaich iu'cclude the effect of velocity-tenaperature disturbamtcecoupling are nutnerically solved for both axisyunmetric azad non-axisynanaetricdisturbances. The axisynvnaetric mode is found to [>e stable. The noua-axisynxmetricmode n'-l is found to be unstable but n=2 stable, wlaere n is the azimuthalwave-number of the non-axisymmetrjc disturbance.
