Magnetic Field Dependence of Acoustic Attenuation in Uniaxially Compressed Sb Doped Ge

The maunetic field effect on acoustic attenuation in 11:htl>r Sb-dareed Go wasmeasured at liquid He temperatures under uniaxial stress. The dirc:ction of theuniaxial stress was in parallel with that of the magnetic field. The attenuationof 1 GHz acoustic waves was measured as a function of the magnetic field upto 60 kG under fixed uniaxial stress. The experimental results were compared withthe theory, in which it is shown that the attenuation is caused by time relaxationof the system into an instantaneous local thermal equilibrium by the acousticwaves under the consideration of' the influence on the donor wave function ofeach valley by the uniaxial stress and the magnetic field. It was fot.und that theeffect of the magnetic field is far larger than that of the present theory (i.e., theZeeman effect).
