In order to investigate the positional stability of a current-carrying plasma inan l=2 stellarator field, we estimate the decay index of the vertical majgnetic fieldwhen the stellarator field is applied. [Experimental results show that the positionalstability of a current-carrying plasmt in the stellarator field is better than that of atokamak plasma. Although the value of the decay index is negative, the plasmaCOIUITIII is also positionally stable in the vertical direction, A followiuvg rc:IationshipltB,/l>Azz.B,/2nR is experimentally confirmed, where iB. is a char.ge of thevertical magnetic field, 5A is the displacement of the plasma columrt, z. is therotational transform angle of the helical field, #. is the toroidal magnet?c field and7? is the major radius of the plasma column.
