A generalized equation is derived from the Toda lattice by a transfomation ofvariables iuacluding a characteristic parameter It. The equation redtmces to theoriginal Toda lattice for the value h= 1, while to the K-dV equation at the Iinvitingvalue /z=0. Soliton solutions of the equation are obtained by the invers<c scatteringmethod, reproducing the corresponding solution of the K-dV equati<>n in everystep of the calculation.
