The probabilities of scattering of planar chanu?elljng particles by electrons andthermal vibrations of atoms are derived. Using tltese probabilities, a FoJcker-Planck equation to describe the behaviour of chanvaelling particles in the trans-verse energy space is obtained. The decrease of the frztction of channelling particleswith peztetration depth, i.e., dechannelling, is calculated by solving the Folcker-Planck equation nutnerically. The results show good agreenaent with the experi-mental data of dechantaelling of I-I" ions iua (110) channels of germanium andsilicon. It is also demonstrated from numerical caulculatiotas that the ordinarydiffusion equatiota can be approximated to the Foklner-Planck equation.
