In the excitation spectra of fluorescence in anthracene crystals ?of about 2 mmin thickness, a main peak is found at about 2.= 420 nm at room temperature whichmoves to 2,=405 urn at liquid nitrogen temperature with narroxving and tlu'eeminima are observed at 2.=353, 373 and 393 run where the absorption maximaarc expected. These characteristics can be qualitatively explained by the steadydistribution of the singlet excitons produced by the monochromzttic irradiationtogether with the Urbach rule.
