The linear stability of periodic permanent roll-wave trains on thin lanainar flowof a viscous fluid down an inclined plane wall has been investigated analytically onthe basis of a hvdraulic model. The anal>'tical result is here cotvfirmed bv followinnnumerically the time development of a periodic initial disturbauace superimposedupon a basic steady parallel flow into a stable or unstable permanent roll-wavetrain. Furthermore, it is shown that roll-waves can be geraerated successively froma localized initial disturbance.
