The Oblique Incidence Transmission Spectra of KCl and KBr for the Polarized Extreme Ultraviolet Radiation

Obliqtue incidence transmittances of alkali haljde thin films (KCI and KBr)for rolarized radiation were investinated in the fundamental rtbsorption region ofthe extreme ultraviolet. The direct measurements of the transmittance ratio(7',/7'.) srectra were r>erformed, and the rlasma resonance absorption was evi-dently demonstrated as a prominent peak in the (1 -T./T.) spectra of KCI andKBr at 14.1 and 13.0 eV, respectively. The peaks well correspond to the previouslyreported peaks in the electron energy loss spectra and also in the loss functionspectra calculated from the optical constants. The plasmon peaks were able tobe distinguished from other subsidiary structures clue to the lccngitudinal excitonsassociated with the transverse excitons.
