The fu'equency and growth ratc of drift wave instability in a weakly ionizedrotating ?vlasma are investigated experimentally in both stable and unstableregions. Titese dependence on the magnetic field strength and the axial wave-number are qualitatively in agreement with the characteristics of a collisionaldrift wave with a finite for. inertia. The frequency of the instability almost linearlyincreases with the radial electric field, but its slope is much smaller than that ofthe plasma rotation frequency due to E X B drift. The result can be explained bytaking into account a centrifugal force.
