For the B"l and b'l" states of the H molecttle, Cl calctulations are carried out u 2using a small basis. The mixing of Rydberg and valence-shell cltaracters in these statesis analyzed for a wide range of internuclear distance (1.4 a.u.< 7<< 10 a.u.). The B"l.state shows a complicated 7< dependence. It is Rydberg type in small R(1.4a.u.<7?<2.44 a.u.), a heavy mixture of valence-shell type and Rydberg type forintermediate region (2.44 a.u.<7<<6.0 a.u.), and Rydberg type for large 71<(7?<6.0a.u.). The b'l. state, on the other hand, changes rapidly from Rydberg type tovalence-shell type at 7?=2.0 a.u. when 7? increases. During the course of the aboveanalysis an index to the degree of the mixing is fot.tnd. This irzdex would be useful indiscussion about Rydberg and valence-shell characters.
