Phonon Scattering by Chromium Ions in CdIn_2S_4 Single Crystals

The thermal conductivity of a pure Cdln.S. single crystal and Cr-doped oneshas been measured between 1.8 artd 200.K. The pure CdIn.S. shows normalbehavior as usually observed in the other ionic or valence crystals. The chromittmions substituted for indium ions in CdIn.S. lattice produce additional phononscatterings of a resonant type at temperatures centered at around 3 and 40 K forall the samples. The wave nunn.bers of the phonons corresponding to the tworesonant peaks come to about 7.5 and 100 cm. '. This behavior is seemed to beeaused by the phonon assisted transitions between low lying energy levels of theCr" vvitlt d' configuration. 1?he experimental results are explained satisfactorilyusing the Callaway's forxnalisnt in dtte consideration of a relaxation term whichhas a resonant character.
