The Hyperfine Fields of Gd in Tb-Gd, Dy-Gd, Er-Gd and Tm-Gd Alloys Obtained by NMR Measurements

The nuclear uavagnetic resorzances of Gd"' ancl Gd"' in Tb..'z-Gd, Dy..zGd, Er. 'z-Gd and Tm,'r,5-Gcl alloys have been studied at 1.4 K by the spin ecltomethod. These experiments have shown the dependence of t1?e magnetic hyperfinefield at Gd nuclei upon the a.ngIe 0 between tlte crystallogv-aphic c-axis and thedirection of the magnetic tatornent of Gd. The ttvagnetic hypccrfine fields have beenfound to be 333 k0e in Tb..'z-Gd with angle 0 =90' and 396 k0e in Er.7,;-Gdwitlt angle 0=27'. The observed electric field gradients (['.FG) were nearly thesame in these alloys. The valttes of the EFG were 2.0 >< [0" am ' in Tb.,z-Gdand 2.1 x 10" cm ' in Er.7;-Gd respectively. The contribution of the conductionelectrons to the EFG was the same order of vna(;nitude as that of the charges ofthe IDYLS at every lattice sites
