The magnetuc permeability of stoichiometric or non-stoichiometric magnetite(Fe3 ,O.) at high pressures has been measured in a piston-cylinder apparatus. TheVerwey transition temperature decrease with pressure at rates of 2.7$0.] KGPa 'for ,)'=0.000, 2,4980,07 for .y=O.005l, 2.3f0.1 for .y=0.0063, 2.55f0.03 for.)'=0.007O, 2.Of0.1 for .y=0.012, 2.0-f0.2 for ,v'=0.0l9, 2.441-0.08 for y=0.O24,2.480.1 for ,v'=0.033 and 2.15f0.08 for ,v'=0.034. A phonon-induced correlatedelectron transfer mechanism by Srivastava can explain the pressure dependence of theVerwey transition temperature. The temperature of the peak of temperaturepermeability curve for each y decreases with increasing pressure.
