Under electric fields close to 10' V/ cm several electronic absorptions of the vanadylphthalocyanine films in the visible and near infrared regions wet-e found to occur withsignificant electric dipole-moment and polarizability increases, while the rest of thetransitions were accompanied by only polarizability increases. 'the former pointed tothe involvement of the charge transfer (CT) excitons, and thus had greater probability of charge-carrier generation as compared with absorptions to the Frenkel excitonstates (the latter cases). Additionally, several very weak absor)>Lions were reaffirmedand ascribed to transitions to the CT states. The characterization of phase change inthe V0Pc films was also illustrated.
