On Some Instabilities in Dislocation Motion in Anisotropic Media

A numerical evaluation of an extension of Lothe's theorem for moving dislocations is undertaken for Al, Cu, and Pb, which have different anisotropy gactors. The results show that instabilities for kinked dislocations may set in at lower velocities than those for straight dislocations and depend on the anisotropy of the metatial. Interaction between arbitrarily oriented straight dislocations is also generalized in terms of a Lagrangian formulation.
