In the nuclear quadrupole resonance spectra there is only one weak absorption peak in Sn Cl_22H_2O, and two peaks in K_2Sn_Cl_4H_2O - one strong and the other weak. These observations indicate that two chlorines in SnCl_2(OH_2) complex are in almost identical positions. In (SnCl_3)^- ion, on the other hand, there are two non-equivalent positions for chlorine atoms. The dependence of nuclear quadrupole resonance frequency on temperature is assumed to arise from relative angular displacements (θ) of covalently bonded atoms. Major contribution is found to come from two orthogonal lattice modes each of wave number 39 cm^<-1>.
