The temperature dependence of nuclear quadrupole resonance frequency has been studied in hexachloroethane. The intensities of four lines are in the ratio 2:2:1:1 which is equal to the ratio of distribution of chlorine atoms amongst various positions in the unit cell. The analysis of the data indicates that lattice vibration, rotation of the whole molecule and internal rotation of C-Cl_3 groups are active in modulating the electric field gradient at the chlorine nuclei. These modes possess Einstein temperatures of 26 K, 72 K, and 114 K respectively. Eech of the C-Cl bonds is found to have fractional S-character and ionic contribution of 12% and 16% respectively.
