Cross sections of symmetric charge transfer are calculated for Gd^+ + Gd and Nd^ + + Nd in the ion incident energy range of 2 eV-5 keV considering that the charge transfer has two main reaction paths, which are resonant and nonresonant processes due to open 4f and 5d shells inside 6s electrons. Because a near-resonant process con-tributes to the reaction in Nd^+ + Nd collisions, the cross section for Nd is larger than that for Gd at energies above a few hundred electron volts and impact energy dependence is anomalous. Calculated cross sections are compared with the experimental data.
