By the use of electron diffraction filter camera it is found that the so-called thinning effect, which has already been observed for Au, Ag and Al can also been observed for BiOCl crystals and the same experimental formula I^∞_<hk0> = I^0_,hk0> exp (cS_<hk0>λ'H) holds when the crystal size is not so large for the accelerating voltages from 15 to 50kV (λ'H|S_<hk0> - S_<310>|〓 100Å^3). Here, I^∞_<hk0> and I^0_<hk0> are the relative integrated intensity ratios for unfiltered and filtered hkO reflections. S_<hk0> the structure factor, H the crystal size and λ' = λ(1 + 0.00059/λ^2)^<1/2>. The coefficient c determined is (31±1) × 10^<-4> Å^<-3>. The intensities vary erratically with wavelength and crystal size but lie within the range suggested by preliminary n-beam calculations based on the methods of Goodman and Moodie.
