In this paper the authors have studied the monlinear generation of the second harmonic component in the current density in an inhomogeneous plasma due to a sinusoidal electric field, a density gradient and a temperature gradient. The appropriate Boltzrnann's transfer equation for electrons has been solved to obtain an expression for the second harmonic component of current density which has then been used in studying the nonlinear growth of the second harmonic of an electromagnetic wave in an inhomogeneous plasma and also the magnitude of the second harmonic component in the reflected wave from an inhomogeneous plasma-free space interface.
