Theory of Spiral Instabilities in Semiconductor Plasmas in Transverse Magnetic Fields

Instabilies of injected plasmas in a Corbino disk shaped semiconductor subject to axial magnetic and radial electric fields are analysed on the basis of a model developed in the preceding article (J.Phys.Soc.Japan 21(1966)lOO). It is shown that spiral shaped perturbations may grow if the unperturbed plasma is non-uniform in the direction of the applied electric field. It is further sbown that perturbations may grow for sufficiently large wave numver k if the density gradient is negative and if the potential gradient in the radial direction and kmB, in which m is an integer and B the axial magnetic field, are both positive or both negative.
