Some Remarks on the Collisionless Plasma Flow

The flow of a collisionless plasma with an aligned magnetic field is discussed on the basis of the Chew-Goldberger-Low approximation. It is shown that the fundamental equations can be reduced to the ordinary gasdynamic equations by making use of a suitable transformation. In the hodograph plane of the reduced variables, a family of exact solutions are obtained in a similar way to the case of ordinaly gasdynamics. As examples, both the flow through a de Laval nozzle and the spiral flow are studied extensively.
