The general theory of van der Waals' forces developed by Lifshitz, Dzyaloshinski and Pitayevski has been applied to forces acting on spheroidal particles in a liquid. Under the condition that the distance R is large compared to the dimensions of spheroids, the potential energy between two attractive spheroids takes its lowest value when their major axes are on a straight line.
