Theoretical consideration of the anisotropy energy of CrO_2 is given. Considering the effect of the crystalline electric field and the dipole interaction, the second order and fourth order terms of the anisotropy energy are calculated. Recent experimental results are interpreted, assuming that the effect of the crystalline electric field and the dipole interaction almost completely cancel each other.
