Using I_δ-index, the distributional pattern of Quercus crispula BLUME trees was analyzed for all the trees as well as the trees with the same type of peroxidase isoenzyme bands in plots A and B. The pattern of all the trees was random in plot A but contagious in plot B. The trees with the same type of isoenzyme bands were contagious in both plots, and the size of the clumps was 200-400 m^2. The ratio frequency of the real to the ideal distance of a tree to its nearest neighbor (R/I ratio) was fit to the normal distribution in both plots. The ideal distance was calculated supposing that each tree had a circular shaded area caused by crowns which was located in its center. Simulations to arrange all the trees using R/I ratio showed that the difference of the distributional pattern between both plots could be attributed to the difference of tree size between both. Based on these results, it was considered that genetically related trees were regenerated simultaneously and contagiously in the opening or gap of the two plots, and that the present stand structure had been established by self-thinning with the advance of the growth thereafter.
