Thie study is a part of the studies on the chinese matgrasscultivation, and with the intension to know what differences on the growth of the height and of the fiber in the stem is to be found between the paddy-field (SUIDEN)- and the field (HATA)-cultivation. The results of experiments are summarized as follows: 1. With regard to the elongation of the height, the field-cultivation's inferior to the paddy-field-cultivation's throughout the period of growth. In both cultivations, the elongation of the stem germinated later is worse than of the one earlier. 2. With regard to the amount of the stems per stock, paddy field cultivations's is more than twice as the field-cultivation's and besides the former has longer stems. 3. With regard to the thickness of the stems, the paddy field's is a bit thicker in the lower part of the stem, but in the middle or the top the former is rather inclined to be thinner than the latter. 4. With regard to the weight of raw stems per stock, the former is about three times as the latter. That is due to the diiference of the number of stems; no difference found between both cultivations as respects to the weight of the equal stems in length. 5. With regard to the amount of sclerenchymatous cells outside of the chlorophyll-tissue, no difference found between. However, as respects to the amount of those inside, the former's larger than the latter's, and more variations found in the latter. There shows the same tendency among the amounts of the cells in a sclerenchymatous-cell bundle. 6. With regard to the breakout-degree and the tension of the stem, the forme's higher than the latter's. But to be equal in hardness seems to have a reason that, between the amounts of the sclerenchymatous-cells outside of the chlorophyll-tissue found no differnce and that between those inside found some differences.
