Emissions of sulfur gases to the atmosphere from 42 types of terrestrial higher plants were measured by using the closed chamber method CH_3SCH_3, CH_3SH, COS, H_2S, CS_2, and n-CH_3CH_2CH_2SH were emitted from the plants. CH_3SCH_3 was predominantly emitted from most of the plants, and the largest emission was 455 ng S kg^<-1> dry wt.min<-1> from snow-on-the-mountain(Euphorbia marginata). CH_3SH was predominantly emitted from liliaceous plants such as Chinese chive(Allium tuberosum)and Asparagus(Asparagus officinalis)and cruciferous plants. The largest emission was 1, 380 ng S kg^<-1> dry wt.min^<-1> from Chinese chive. n-CH_3CH_2CH_2SH was predominantly emitted from liliaceous plants such as leek(Allium fistulosum) and onion(Allium cepa). COS was mainly emitted from nastrutium(Tropaeolum majus).
