To evaluate the status of nutrients in soil, the bioassay procedure was often used.In this paper, a comparison of chemical method (0.05N KCl extraction method) with Aspergillus niger procedure for estimating available copper and zinc in soils was described. The amounts of copper and zinc in available form in soil found by A. niger method were greater than those obtained by chemical method, and except for a few soils, the bioassay generally gave 1.5-2 fold for copper, and about twice for zinc, as high values as the available copper and zinc contents by chemical method. Some probable reasons for these high values were discussed.
