(1) Studies were made on the radioactivity of soils in the middle district of Tottori Prefecture.(2) The values of radioactivity were 0.09×10^<-10>〜0.14×10^<-10>curie/g for the aplite soils, 0.09×0.24×10^<-10>curie/g for weathered aplites, and 0.04×10^<-10>〜0.19×10^<-10>curie/g for biotite granite soils. These values are considerably higher than those of the andesite soil and shale soil.(3) The value of radioactivity of the mixed oxides obtained from the hydrochloric acid extracts of the granitic soils was 0.034×10^<-10>〜0.078×10^<-10>curie/g.(4) In the granite and aplite, the radioactive substance soluble in hydrochloric acid increased with the progress of weathering.(5) The radioactive substance extracted from granitic soils in the solution, which contained ammonium sulphate and sodium chloride, was composed mainly of thorium X.(6) The radioactivity of ashes from plants grown on the biotite granite soils was several times as high as that of ashes from the plants on the andesite soil as well as the shale soil.
