Effect of ultrasonic flaw on the cementation of pure iron, graphitization of the cemented iron using 30 or 100 K.C. ultrasonic flaw and the phase change of cementite were studied. Results were as follows. (1) Flaky graphite was easily formed during cementation at temperatures above 850℃ of pure iron with solid carburizer consisting of charcoal powder, Na_2CO_3 and BaCO_3 under ultrasonic waves. (2) When iron was cemented under ultraonic waves and furnace cooled from the cementing temperature down to about 600℃ under ultrasonic waves, pearlite structure was almost completly graphitized. (3) Cementite in pure iron was easily graphitized under ultrasonic waves at comparatively lower temperature, especially more easily when the iron had been quenched from high temperature and graphitized even at such lower temperature as below as 750℃. (4) When the cemented pure iron was heated at temperature under Ar_1 about 1 hr under ultrasonic flaw, it was found that an unknown phase precipitated out in cementite crystals, which finally decomposed clearly into two phases. It was supposed that the unknown crystal phase should be an iron carbide, higher carbon content than F_3C and the other phase was ferrite.
