These present experiments were designed, to investigate the influence of residual blood trapped in grafted bone when the allogenic grafts were done. After washing the grafted bone for 30 minutes prior to implantation, blood component in the bone was almost non existant. The process of bone union was examined by morphological methods, and a comparison was made between the washed group and the un-washed group. The results were as followed: In both groups, bone union was completed within 8 weeks, after implantation. In 2-4 weeks, the degree of inflammatory cell infiltration surrounding the grafted bone, in the washed group was less than in un-washed group. Furthermore, in the un-washed group immunoglobulin deposition surrounding the grafted bone was observed. From these results, it is suggested that the removal of blood from grafted bone by washing is effective to reducing the inflammatory reaction in the early stages after implantaion.
