The normal modes of vibration in crystal have been determined by the group-theoretical method, familiar in the theory of molecules. Secular equation for determining the frequencies of normal modes has been reduced to lower degrees by making use of the ranslational, crystal and K-groups. The frequency-distribution curves have been obtained for a few types of crystals, with a brief reference to 2nd order Raman-effect.
