In studying dynamics of elliptical galaxies, the observable quantities are always coarse-grained. The coarse-grained evolution can increase the entropy of the system, the coarse-graining procedure plays an important role in relaxation of elliptical galaxies. Thus we have derived collision term directly from the procedure. We also have discussed physical meanings of the collision term, and have shown it contains three different effects; 1) the self-interaction, 2) phase mixing and 3) the scattering. The collision term derived from BBGKY formalism given by the N-body distribution function corresponding to coarse-graining has been discussed and it has been shown that the collision term derived from BBGKY contains mainly the self-interaction effect. Therefore the dynamical study of elliptical galaxies should employ coarse-graining.
