Real vector multiplets with no internal local gauge invariance are coupled to the N = 1 supergravity. Improved superconformal gauge conditions of Kugo and Uehara are adopted in order to obtain the canonical Einstein-Hilbert and Rarita-Schwinger actions. Physical degrees of freedom are scalars, pairs of Majorana spinors and Proca fields coupled to the N = 1 supergravity. If a non-vanishing self-Yukawa coupling of the compensating multiplet is introduced, it turns out that the stationary points of the scalar potential are negative definite in the case of the canonical kinetic term, irrespective of the vacuum value of scalar fields. If the Yukawa coupling is zero, the cosmological term vanishes but the super-Higgs phenomenon does not occur.
