A new parametrization of the CKM matrix is made, and the quark mass matrices are derived phenomenologically based on the approximate horizontal SU(2) symmetry. By applying Barnhill's method, the quark mass matrices which are consistent with the data for the quark masses and the CKM matrix elements are derived. It is shown that the leading terms of the mass matrices have the simple form of hierarchical structures. The relevant spontaneous symmetry breaking of the horizontal SU(2) symmetry is discussed.
