The Large Angle Behavior of the Two-Body Reactions in a Peripheral Reaction Model

An asymptotic expression for large angle differential cross sections, dσ/dt∝exp{-2×Imα(s)-θ}, in a simplified peripheral reaction model is compared with data. The gross behavior of energy and angular dependence of available data (0.50≲p_L≲10(GeV/c) of π^±p elastic and charge exchange and K^±p elastic and p^±p elastic scattering is consistent with this expression. From the comparison with pp elastic scattering data, it is pointed out that the non-peripheral contributions from the lower partial wave become important for the large angle differential cross section for p_L≳10 GeV/c.
