For the two-nucleon transfer reactions, the effects of finite size of the transferred system in the light incident particle are investigated. It is shown that the transitions of the two-nucleon system to the residual nuclear states which are not cluster-like, are not necessarily negligible although they have often been neglected in the actual calculations. According to our calculations the transition amplitudes are more sensitive to the choice of the size parameter of the transferred system than those for the cluster like states are. Therefore, in studying the reactions with such a residual nucleus in which the nucleon-pairs are destroyed, we should carefully treat the spatial extension of the system in the final and initial channels. As one of the effects of the finiteness, it is also pointed out that the effect of the tail of the bound state wave function is more important in the two-nucleon transfer reactions than in the (d, p) or (d, n) reaction. Numerical calculations are carried out by choosing the reaction O^16(α, d) F^8 as an example.
