The mechanism of the (α, d) stripping reaction for lighter nuclei is investigated in comparison with that of the (d, p) or the (d, n) stripping reaction. Theoretical considera-tions and numerical calculations for the case of s-d shell of the product nucleus reveal that the effect of finite size of α-particle is essential in this reaction. Further, it is shown that the probability that the transferred nucleons make a cluster-like state is very high because of the fact that they are tightly bound in the incident α-particle. Thus we empha-size that further studies of the correlation between the captured nucleons in the product nucleus will be very important.
