The differential cross section and vector and tensor polarizations of high energy deuteron elastically scattered by light nuclei are explained by the superposition of a proton-and neutron-nucleus interactions within the framework of the impulse approximation. The interaction between the proton and neutron in the deuteron is taken into account through the wave function of the deuteron. The calculated results for the differential cross section and the vector and tensor polarizations agree with experimental data except for <T<20>>. It seems that there is considerable cancellation of the matrix element in the vector and tensor polarizations of the deuteron which does not occur in the differential cross section.
