Relations between Pion Photoproduction and πN Scattering

The pion photoproduction due to the magnetic moment of nucleon is shown to possess a property similiar to πN scattering. The magnetic multipole amplitudes M_<l±> are found to be related to the corresponding πN scattering amplitudes f_<l±> as M_<l±>=(eμ_ν)/g1/l(k/q)^lf_<l±> The proportionality relation is obtained also for the case of electric multipole radiation. The full amplitudes for pion photoproduction are expressed in terms of the amplitudes of the processes πN→πN and πN→ηN without any freely adjustable parameter. Numerical results for differential cross sections and polarizations agree fairly well with the experimental data in the wide energy range 180~1000 MeV.
