The m_b/m_τ ratio is calulated by solving the renormalization group equations for the Yukawa coupling constants at the one-loop level with small Yukawa coupling approximation in the weak standard model with N_g fermion generations and N_H Higgs doublets. The initial conditions are given by the SU(5) symmetry relations at μ=M_X (the unification mass) and by the phenomenologically obtained value of sin^2θ_W at μ=M_W (the weak boson mass). The result is sensitive to N_g, N_H and sin^2θ_W. By this calculation and the value of M_X, which is related to the proton stability, a constraint can be obtained on the number of fermion generations and that of Higgs doublets in the weak standard model.
