We propose that the effect of the medium strong symmetry breaking interaction on the hadronic electromagnetic processes can be taken into account by working with an octet-dominant effective electromagnetic Hamiltonian transforming as S_1^1+bS_2^2 in SU(3). This simple prescription suffices to explain most of the data on the radiative decays. The analysis presents a strong case for the accurate measurement of Γ(K^<*0>→K^0_γ) and of the ratio Γ(K^<*+>→K^+_γ)/ Γ(K^<*0>→K^0_γ). We extend the symmetry breaking formalism to the SU(4)-charm scheme.
