Properties of a Two-Dimensional Classical Coulomb Gas

We study a two-dimensional classical Coulomb gas by means of the graphic expansion for a small fugasity z (≡e^<-βμ>≪1). We introduce fictitious screening length l in the interaction which we let infinite at the end, and examine the effective interaction potential G(r), especially the effective screening constant ξ, in this limit. Our method is valid both below and above T_c and gives the differential equations similar to Kosterlitz renormalization group equations, which have not only the low temperature but also the high temperature fixed points. Using thus obtained G(r), we also study the behaviors of the charge-density correlation function ρ(r) and the particle density n.
