The Japanese Red Cross Society is a most famous non-profit organization having 8 departments, comprising international activity, domestic help activity, healthcare, nursing school, blood enterprises, social welfare, training in life saving and volunteer work in Japan. Originally blood donation has been an event filled with community spirit. However due to the influence of the HIV epidemic, the Japanese Red Cross Society had to distinguish between risky donors and safe donors through the use of expensive screening tests. Managers of the department of blood enterprises of the Japanese Red Cross Society are preparing to invest in nonactivating viruses processing in the near future and to investigate the possibility of starting a distribution system of products like supply chain managers of a for-profit company. But more efforts should be made to create partnerships with regional organizations such as NPOs in order to educate donors, rather than merely starting programs to invest. Recently, therefore, the Japanese Red Cross Society has decided to transfer its blood bank system from the head office to an independent position whose chief executive will be able to make decisions independently of the CEO of the head office.
