1) Number of school phobia (school refusal) in these twelve years who visited Psychosomatic Center and Psychiatric Clinic of Keio and Seibo-Hospital, were sixty six, forty males, twenty six females, aged five to eighteen.Twelve patients out of forteen patients of Psychosomatic Center who were interviewed by author, have fallen into a habit of unusually eagerly staring at TV. Fifteen patients out of fifty two who visited psychiatric clinic were found, by examining clinical record and inquiring, to be also unusually fond of TV.It is hypothesized that the concentration to the pleasure such as TV in home might be the center mechanisms of school refusal. On this hypothesis four cases of recovery are reported which have resulted from abandoning to watch TV and compelling to go school.2) It is recognized that there is the parallel relation between the TV diffusion curve and the increase curve of the shcool refusal either in Japan or in U.S.A.It should be considered that the rapid increase in the cases of the school refusal at the recent time is caused by a certain influence of the outer world, excepting the patient's personality or the human relation at home or school, and the pleasure of watching TV is the very important factor of it.The behavior therapy amending the indulgent circumstance and compelling the patient to go to school is concidered effective.
